EMLYON Business School receives prestigious HP Catalyst Award
Today, EMLYON announced it has been chosen to participate in the HP Catalyst Initiative, a global social innovation programme designed to develop more effective approaches to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. As a new member of this programme, the French business school will receive a grant of HP technology, financial contributions and professional support valued at more than $150,000.
EMLYON was selected for its joint interdisciplinary campus project, the Yin-Yang alliance. The aim of this joint-project is to combine two leading schools of the French Grande Ecole system, EMLYON Business School and Ecole Centrale of Lyon, in order to propose a higher education of a new type that will combine science and business with a global scope.
Another project within the Yin-Yang partnership is the creation of the IDEA School (standing for “Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Art”) in 2012. Its mission is to bring engineering and management students together, blending science and business culture, to develop future managers-entrepreneurs, able to generate innovative projects with an entrepreneurial spirit.
“The project will first explore how “design thinking” pedagogy can help students from various educational backgrounds (science, business, social sciences, art, etc) to become performing and efficient managers-entrepreneurs. Then it will attempt to determine how to successfully build a community of educators from various backgrounds and various institutions involved in a new pedagogical approach,” explains Thierry Picq, Associate Dean for Pedagogical Innovation at EMLYON. “The grant from the HP Company is a unique opportunity to develop specific learning approaches to support “design-thinking” knowledge, know-how and behavioral competencies. The objective is to experiment, create and formalise new teaching methods, and to disseminate them through the students on campus and also through the network of educators of the IDEA School’s partners.”
EMLYON Business School is one of the top ten European business schools, devoted to the lifelong learning for entrepreneurial and international management.
